What if there was a way for your customers to spend more money on your Shopify store? Or them buying more than one product at once?

If that happened, your average order value would go up, you would sell more products, and you would get more profit. Magic right?

This is where Shopify bundles come along, let’s see how to create them and why you should be using bundles in your store.

What are bundles on Shopify & how they can benefit your store?

Shopify bundles are simply groups of products sold together as one package.

Think of it like ordering a combo meal in McDonald's. Instead of choosing a Bic Mac, fries and a coke separately, you can simply get a meal. It feels like you're getting a better deal, right?

That's also how Shopify product bundles work.

#1 Increased average order value

Customers often feel like they’re getting a deal when they see related items packaged together, so they don’t mind spending a little extra.

If you have a skincare line - why not bundle a cleanser, toner, and moisturizer? It’s convenient for them and more revenue for you.

#2 Inventory movement

Pairing slow-moving products with a popular item, helps move those slower sellers without having to heavily discount them.

It’s like giving your kids veggies hidden in something they already love, so they can get the nutrition they need without complaining too much. Little evil, I know, but it works.

#3 Customer satisfaction

People love a good deal and the convenience of not having to think too much. You’re solving their problems by offering them everything they need in one neat package.

4 types of product bundles on Shopify

There are several types of product bundling that can advance your store's offerings:

# Type Description
#1 Fixed Pre-set groups of specific products sold together.
#2 Customizable Customers choose items from a set to create their own bundle.
#3 Multipacks Multiple units of the same product sold together.
#4 Kits Products bundled for a specific purpose or function.

#1 Fixed

Two or more products that work together bundled, that’s it! Here is how Golde is bundling their Superwhisk with their Pure Matcha green tea powder. They just make sense together:

#2 Customizable

A customizable bundle lets customers choose from different products and variants to create their own personalized package.

#3 Multipacks

As mentioned previously, multipacks are units of the same product sold together. In the image below you can see how Golde is selling a 3 product package of “Pure Matcha” which saves their customers almost $18.

#4 Kits

These are bundles with products that have a specific purpose to function together. We can see how Pride & Groom are selling their doggy bath bundle with a shampoo and a conditioner.

How to create product bundles on Shopify

Let’s take a look at the different ways you can create bundles on Shopify.

#1 Using the Shopify Bundles app

In 2023, Shopify introduced the Shopify Bundles app, which allows you to easily create product bundles right within your Shopify admin.

This is a very beginner-friendly option and works great for most stores.

Steps you need to take:

  1. Install the Shopify Bundles App: Search for "Shopify Bundles" in the Shopify App Store and click on the “Shopify Bundles” app:
  1. Create a New Bundle: Once installed, you’ll find a "Bundles" section in your admin. Click on “Create Bundle.”
  1. Select Products for the Bundle: Choose the individual products you want to include in the bundle. In this case, we are going to create a yoga set for beginners (yoga mat + yoga brick).
  1. Set Pricing and Discounts: You can either keep the total price as the sum of the items, or offer a discount for purchasing them as a bundle.
  1. Customize the Bundle’s Display: Customize the title, description, and images to make the bundle attractive to your customers.
  1. Publish the Bundle: Once everything looks good, publish your bundle and make sure it’s visible on your store.

And voila, you are done! 🥳

#2 Using third-party bundle apps

Although Shopify’s bundle app is very useful, it does miss out on some more advanced features like mixing and matching your bundles. For that, you would need a 3rd party app.

There are many other bundle apps you can use, and you can find them all on the Shopify store:

#3 Building custom bundles with Bundles API

Available only to Shopify Plus users, the Shopify API allows you to create any type of bundle you wish.

This method gives you complete control, so you can build highly tailored bundles for unique use cases.

  • Use the Admin API to manage products and collections, then write logic that handles bundling multiple products together as one unit.
  • With full control over the code, you can customize how prices are calculated and how bundles are displayed. This could include setting discounts dynamically or applying certain rules like minimum quantity requirements.

Are you ready to start bundling?

I hope my guide helps you create well-crafted product bundles on Shopify.

Experiment with different types of bundles, find what works best for your products, and watch your average order value take off.

Happy selling! 🎉
