How to create a blog in Shopify: step-by-step process

You’re thinking about creating a blog for your Shopify store? Let’s go through a quick step-by-step process for adding new blogs and articles to your e-shop.

Every Shopify store has a default blog called “News”. You can change the name of this blog to something more suited to your business (such as “Blog” or “Tips & Tricks”). You can also create multiple blogs for your store and use them to organize articles by category.

Short answer: yes, you do need a blog for your e-commerce business. However, launching a blog doesn’t mean you have to post a new article each and every week for the rest of your life. Your Shopify blog can perform very well with just a few evergreen posts (content that isn’t time-sensitive).

If you’re short on ideas for blog post topics, start with these two types of content:

• SEO-oriented content: are there questions that your target market might ask Google and that you could write about?
• Brand content: if a client were to visit your store, what question could you answer in a blog post that would help them make a purchase decision?

As the business owner, remember that you don’t have to write the posts yourself. If you have more money than time available, consider hiring a freelance writer to create content for you.

To create your very first blog post in Shopify, go to your Shopify admin dashboard at mystore.com/admin and follow these steps:

1. In the left side menu, click Online store then Blog posts

• Fill in the Title and Content sections

• Set visibility as Visible (if you want to publish the post right away)

• Click save

Once you have created at least one blog post, you can add new blogs to your store. To do so, follow these steps:

1. In the left side menu, click Online store then Blog posts

• Click Manage blogs

• Click Add blog

• Fill in the Title section

• Click Save

Next time you’ll create an article, you will be able to add it to this blog (in the Organization section).
